Have a question keeping you up at night? Fear no more.
First, and I can't stress this enough I promise I am just a normal lass out here, with a PaSsIoN fOr DeSiGn.
I know it can be daunting to work with a freelancer, as all of us are unique unicorns. I try to make the process as transparent and simple as I can.
Here's the most frequently asked questions I receive. Whether you're not sure how a designer fits into a partnership with your business,
or if you're just curious if I will "Just make a logo..." (hint: No, I will not.) I'm sure you'll find something interesting here.
"Can you just make me a logo?"
No. Here's why: I really like food analogies (you'll see.) A logo is like a pepperoni. A pepperoni is a good snack. But, if you're expecting a pizza, you're not going to have
one with just a pepperoni; It's just a pepperoni. The pizza comes when you put all the other ingredients together, based on your pizza preferences, and build it carefully.
Are you following me?
A logo is like a pepperoni. It's great, but without the whole brand (the rest of the pizza) it's really just a slice, pun intended, of the brand.
I help you create your brand identity. In pizza world, the whole brand is the dough, the sauce, the toppings, the box it's delivered in, the method of delivery, and the quality of the whole experience.
Your brand is the same. This is why I have strategy at the front of every project. We aren't just making a logo, we are building an identity with your audience, tone-of-voice, messaging, mission, and goals in mind.
All of these factors help determine the visual assets, typography, color palette, and logos that represent your business.
"Can you make me a simple website?"
What does "simple" mean to you?
Simple to one person could mean a 5-page website, while to another it could be a landing page. Both of these are very different.
I do not have specific packages for "1-Page Websites/5-Page Websites/20-Page Websites" because your website is more than the amount
of pages it consists of.
Things we need to answer before I can begin the strategy & wireframe of your website:
What is the website's purpose?
Who will be looking at this website?
What integrations will this website need?
What do we want the visitors on this website to do? After that, what do we want them to do? After that...
How do we tie in the brand, tone-of-voice, and messaging within the website?
It's similar to the logo question. The answer is "No, however... I can build you a website that
serves your business and your clients."
"Can you rebrand my business using what I have already?"
If this is your question, I'll need to ask you, "Why are you rebranding then?"
A rebrand is a fresh start. If your current branding isn't working, we don't want to polish a turd.
We want to build something new, that represents your businesses growth, transition, pivot, etc. There's a reason you want to rebrand.
Staying back won't help us move forward.
"Will a new brand/website help me get more clients/followers?"
Building a new website or brand in order to get more clients is like buying new pots & pans, hoping it makes your cooking better.
The new pots & pans will make cooking easier for you, and they'll probably energize you to cook more, but the cooking is a separate job.
A new brand is a connection item. It connects your business to your clients. You build that connection and brand recognition through consistency, clarity, and strategy.
A new brand won't do anything for new clients, but using the brand to tell your story, position yourself in front of the right people, and being consistent with showing up, will.
If you're nervous about how to use your new brand, don't worry! My branding guidelines you receive will give you heaps of information on what to do next.
What I hate seeing, is a new brand stuck on someone's computer. It needs to get out into the world and do it's job.
Process & Workflow
The peas and carrots, if you will:
What is your process start to finish? First, you reach out to me and we set up a:
1. Discovery Call where we will see if we are a good fit
and if I can help solve your creative problems. Don't worry, this takes about 20 minutes.
2. I'll send you my Project Proposal which is literally just my proposal of your project. Timeline, budget, deliverables, revisions, etc. are all included here.
3. Onboarding occurs when you accept the proposal. I'll send over my contract for you to sign, the first invoice of the project, and after that is paid... IT'S SHOW TIME.
4. Because next is the Strategy & Research phase, when I get to nerd out. You'll fill out a questionnaire, which gives
me information on your business, audience, products, and competitors. I will become one with my computer, and start the first steps to building your brand identity and/or website.
5. First Presentation. Usually, I'll have some logo concepts, color concepts, type concepts, and some identity concepts that I will present to you. We will chat about it and
I'll go back to the drawing board with your feedback.
6. Revisions. I revise. I allow two revisions in my branding work, and websites are a little different as far as revisions. I need to create a completely separate blog post on websites.
Usually, we only need one revision, if that helps settle your worries!
7. Second Presentation. Usually, this is your completed brand identity, will all feedback considered from our first meeting. We will talk about your brand, answer any questions you have, and when we are all done with creating...
8. It's time to being offboarding. I'll send over my final invoice. After that is paid, you will receive all deliverables, including your new branding guidelines document which shows
you everything about your brand identity.
9. The rest of the stuff. This is where I would put together any additional things you need related to your brand, like marketing assets, templates, packaging, etc.
10. I needed a tenth step to make it even. Google review. Because Google reviews do so much for small businesses. I'll probably send you an email a week after our project is complete, with a cute link to my Google Business Page.
It would mean the world to me if you left a review. It helps in so many ways!
"Can you build both my brand & my website?"
Yes, and I would absolutely love to. Building your brand means I'm personally connected to it and know the ins and outs of this new identity. If I can meet your website needs, I'd love to build your website for you.
"Do you offer design retainers?"
Yes, for monthly marketing design needs, and website maintenance.
"Do you offer photography for a website?"
Funny you ask, because yes. Photography is my jam, and I love branding photography. If you are local to me
in the Seattle or Tacoma area, I can help you with your branding photos which includes product photography, photos of your team, business, and of course, you.
I love providing photo assistance to my local clients, because (especially when building your website) it helps keep everything consistent. I don't want you to have to use stock photography!
"What's your favorite thing about being a brand & web designer?"
The partnerships with business owners and their teams.
I absolutely love helping your business shine through and tell it's own story. I'm also an artsy fartsy person in general, so whenever I can help someone
create a brand that is unique and new, it gives me tears in my eyes. I hate trends, and I love a new, unique brand that is SO ON POINT with what the business stands for.
