"Church Branding - I think we just need a new logo."

...and a new website, new photography, some video, new copywriting...

Modern Church Branding is different...

"We have so much to say to so many people in so many places."

...YES! How will you do all of this, though?

Modern Church Branding Needs... More.

Aside from the clichè logo with the bible that opens up to the cross and a sunset overlooking the horizon... churches usually have:

  • An outdated website that is confusing, hard to read, the forms don't work, the message isn't clear, etc. If the UX (user experience) is bad, I'm not going to stick around as a webiste visitor.
  • The copywriting feels like you're talking to one person. We both know that church is for everyone. How will my family get excited to go to this church if I feel welcome, but the children's ministry page sounds like an elderly woman is talking to them about what kids want and need?
  • Everything is off brand. Oh no! This looks like another website template without any personality. If you look like every other church website out there, why on earth would I walk through the door on Sunday morning?
  • Photography and video look like stock assets. Or, your photography looks nothing like what I see inside your building. Were these images taken 10 years ago?
  • MARKETING: What is your church marketing plan? There's so many ways to market your church. From print, digital, ads, video content... keep reading for more on marketing.
  • Your Church Brand

A brand is way more than just a logo. A logo is apart of this, sure. But a brand is a feeling. Your brand should encompass your mission and goals and communicate those to the whole world consistently.

    Your Church Website

    Your website should:

  • Be on-brand.
  • Communicate clearly.
  • Be easy to navigate.
  • Display your mission and beliefs.
  • Talk to everyone. From the main homepage, to your student and children's ministries, to your bible studies. These should have a specific tone of voice.
  • Draw people to the desire to get to know who Jesus is.
  • Your Church Marketing

You will reach different audiences through different platforms. It's important to alter your method dependent on who you're talking to.

  • Youtube: Are your sermons available on the biggest video platform online? Shorts can help you draw more traffic to your sermons, through sermon-snippets, behind-the-scenes bloopers of your day-to-day and staff personalities, and more.
  • Facebook & Instagram: Reach a wide audience here from young adults to older adults. Scripture graphics, photography, event marketing, staff information, and testimonials can be shared here.
  • TikTok: Reach a younger audience. I fully believe this is a great way to stay relevant to your student ministries. Advertise what's going on inside student ministry, events coming up, and show the world that students are safe to spark conversation amongst their peers here.
  • Print: From connect cards, signage, newspaper ads, programs, event info flyers, welcome cards, etc. Tailor your print media to the audience you're speaking to.
  • There's so much more to Church Branding than "just" a logo.

Logos, colors, fonts, print media, marketing, video, photography, google business profile, etc. It's overwhelming sometimes and if you aren't looking at each of these criteria to determine where you need to step up or re-design something to meet your churches goals, then you may fall short.
